Q&A: What Is Happening to My Home Search on Zillow?

If you are currently looking for a home in the Chicagoland area, you have likely noticed that Zillow isn't showing the same fresh inventory it used to. As of May 20, 2026, the data feed from MRED (our regional Multiple Listing Service) to Zillow has been suspended.

I’ve received many questions about this, so I’ve compiled the facts to help you navigate this change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Zillow stop showing new listings? MRED suspended the data feed because Zillow failed to comply with MRED’s licensing rules by a midnight deadline on May 19, 2026. MRED maintains that Zillow was in "material breach" of its agreement by selectively excluding certain "private" listings submitted by local brokers.

Did Zillow choose to stop showing listings? No, the suspension was initiated by MRED. MRED required Zillow to display all active, authorized listings to maintain the feed. Because Zillow did not meet that requirement, MRED terminated the transfer of new listing data.

Why is Zillow fighting these rules? Zillow claims that the pressure to display these "private" listings is part of an anti-competitive conflict between MRED and Compass. They have filed a federal antitrust lawsuit and requested an injunction to stop the feed cutoff, but the suspension remained in effect as of this morning.

How can I make sure I don't miss new homes? With major consumer apps facing data lags, the most reliable way to see new inventory is through a direct, real-time feed from a licensed professional. I can set you up with an MLS-integrated search that bypasses these third-party glitches entirely.
